As a pioneer of flyback chronographs, Longines had not released a flyback chronograph watch for quite some time. Until 2023, Longines revived its long-standing aviation tradition and launched the Longines Spirit Chronograph Flyback watch, marking the return of the former "king of chronographs".
The Longines Spirit Chronograph Flyback is one of the most representative and highest-spec watches in this series, and indeed in Longines' sports watch line. This remains true today. At first glance, the new Spirit Chronograph Flyback appears similar to its predecessor. However, closer inspection reveals several substantial changes.
First, the watch features a smaller case diameter and significantly reduced thickness, further enhancing wearability. Made of stainless steel, the case measures 39.5 mm in diameter and 13.4 mm in thickness, resulting in a well-proportioned and thinner design compared to its predecessor, making it more comfortable and fit snugly on the wrist. Furthermore, Longines has applied a large-area brushed finish to the case, elevating its luxurious and sporty character.
Second, the watch design has become more streamlined. It features a bidirectional rotating ceramic bezel, which, after polishing, has a strong luster and looks more sophisticated. The new model removes the square skeletonized markers from the previous generation's ceramic bezel and simplifies the numerals.
Third, this watch features a manual-winding movement for the first time. It uses the L792.4 manual-winding movement. This movement is an exclusive Longines movement developed specifically for Longines by ETA, a movement manufacturer within the Swatch Group, which owns Longines. The L792.4 manual-winding movement is based on the ETA 7750 but has undergone significant modifications, including the addition of a flyback chronograph module, the use of a silicon hairspring for excellent antimagnetic properties, a column wheel, and COSC Swiss chronometer certification, offering approximately 68 hours of power reserve.
